The Traffic Unit’s primary responsibility consists of conducting enforcement efforts of the traffic laws of the State of Georgia. Deputies assigned to the Traffic Unit are specially trained and equipped to handle various traffic violations such as sp
eeding, Driving Under the Influence (DUI), reckless driving, and multiple others offenses. Deputies also participate in various educational and high visibility programs such as the Alcohol Drug Awareness Program (ADAP), Child Passenger Safety Seat inspections, and road checks throughout the year as well.
All Deputies with the Traffic Unit are also State certified Child Passenger Safety Seat Technicians. As technicians, Deputies routinely conduct inspections and train parents on how to properly install a child safety seat. If you would like assistance with your child safety seat, please submit a request form for inspection and a deputy will be in touch with you.
CRIME SUPPRESSION UNIT
T
he Crime Suppression Unit (CSU) is an additional division of the Traffic Unit. CSU’s primary responsibility consists of high visibility enforcement, such as saturated patrols targeting high crime and drug areas. Deputies assigned to the CSU are specially trained as well. CSU targets specific areas making contacts to help further intelligence on criminal investigations in that area, either to prevent crime before it occurs or assist on-going investigations.
The CSU also conducts surveillance operations or assists other divisions within the Sheriff’s Office such as the Criminal Investigations Division (CID) or the Haralson-Paulding Drug Task Force (HPDTF).
