BOARD OF ELECTIONS AND VOTER REGISTRATION

Paulding County Board of Elections and Voter Registration

PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT

WHY IS THERE ONLY 1 EARLY VOTING LOCATION IN PAULDING COUNTY FOR THE DECEMBER 6 RUNOFF?

HERE'S WHY:

1. THERE IS A VERY SMALL WINDOW OF TURN AROUND FROM THE NOVEMBER GENERAL ELECTION TO THE DECEMBER RUNOFF.

2. THE GENERAL ELECTION COULD NOT BE CERTIFIED UNTIL NOVEMBER 15. STATE MANDATED.

3. THERE WAS A STATE REQUIRED AUDIT THAT HAD TO BE CONDUCTED ON NOVEMBER 17.

4. DUE TO THE HOLIDAYS, THERE IS A LACK OF POLL WORKER AVAILABILITY.

5. WE HAVE TO WAIT ON THE STATE TO SEND US A DATABASE, AND OUR PRINT VENDOR TO SEND US OUR BALLOTS. ALL OF THIS HAS TO BE PROOFED FOR ACCURACY.

6. TESTING MUST BE CONDUCTED ON ALL VOTING EQUIPMENT THAT IS SENT OUT, TO INSURE THAT IT IS WORKING PROPERLY.

7. TESTING WAS BEING CONDUCTED THROUGH NOVEMBER 23.

8. THE BOARD OF ELECTIONS UNANIMOUSLY DECIDED THAT THERE WOULD BE NO OPTIONAL SATURDAY OR SUNDAY VOTING. INSTEAD, THEY EXTENDED THE EARLY VOTING HOURS BY 3 HOURS PER DAY, BASICALLY ADDING 2, 8 HOUR DAYS, MINUS 1 HOUR.

9. ON MONDAY, NOVEMBER 28, WE VOTED 5,652 EARLY VOTERS. THERE WAS NEVER OVER A 35 MINUTE WAIT, AND THIS WAS DURING PEAK TIMES AT OPENING, AND LUNCH.  EACH VOTER WAS PROCESSED IN ON AN AVERAGE OF 41 SECONDS.

10. THE BEST TIME TO VOTE, IF IT IS CONVENIENT TO THE VOTERS IS BETWEEN 5PM AND 7PM.

THE PAULDING COUNTY BOARD OF ELECTIONS AND STAFF ARE FORTUNATE TO BE ABLE TO SERVE OUR VOTERS WITH EARLY VOTING. WHETHER IT BE FOR 3 WEEKS OR 1 WEEK, AS OPPOSED TO IN THE PAST ONLY HAVING 1 DAY OF VOTING ON ELECTION DAY. WE ARE HERE TO SERVE YOU AS WELL AS BEING CONSIDERATE OF THE TAXPAYER DOLLARS THAT IT TAKES TO CONDUCT ELECTIONS.

WE APPRECIATE THE VOTERS OF PAULDING COUNTY, AND ALWAYS WELCOME EVERYONE TO COME IN AND OBSERVE, OR BE A PART OF THE ELECTORAL PROCESS, TO BETTER UNDERSTAND AND EDUCATE THEMSELVES ON WHAT GOES INTO MAKING ELECTIONS HAPPEN FOR OUR VOTERS.
