Expungement (O.C.G.A. 35-3-37(d)) refers to purging of criminal history records. Georgia Law provides for the expungement of certain criminal history records when approved by the prosecuting attorney.

You must appear in person (with a picture ID, social security number, and drivers license number) at the Paulding County Sheriffs Office and request a current Georgia Criminal History Record check. There is a non-refundable cash fee of $10.00 for Paulding residents and a $20.00 for non-residents for the criminal history record check.

Inidviduals will be provided with an Expungement Application that they will need to complete at the Sheriff's Office. There is a $25.00 cash only, non-refundable, fee to process the expungement request. The completed from will be submitted to the District Attorney’s Office for review, This process will take approximately two weeks. Once the District Attorney’s Office has reviewed the application it will be returned to the Sheriff's Office.

The applicant will receive a letter in the mail informing them of the District Attorney's Office decision. When the letter is received, the applicant must bring that letter to the Sheriffs Office to retrieve their application.

The applicant will be responsible for forwarding the Expungement Application and
$25.00 money order or certified check (non-refundable) payable to the Georgia Bureau of
Investigation. The applicant may choose to hand deliver the application in person. By
doing this it will speed up the process.
