The Detention Center has a Transport Division who is responsible for transporting inmates to and from specific locations. Transport works closely with the District Attorney’s office, the Probate Judge’s office, the Juvenile Judge’s office, the Magistrate Judge’s office, the State Probation department and the State Department of Corrections. They must coordinate inmate movements to and from the courts for hearings, trials and sentencing. They also work with the State Department of Corrections for transporting state-sentenced inmates to the state prison system and for picking up and returning inmates on Court Production Orders. They also coordinate the inmate’s movement to and from outside medical facilities for treatment. Transport also works with the Patrol and Warrant Division coordinating pickup and transport on Probate Court involuntary committals.
There is a transport officer either on duty or on call 24 hours a day seven days a week.
Transport’s primary objective is to insure the safety and security of the public, themselves and the inmates that are being transported.
