Children are virtually defenseless and are vulnerable to becoming victims of society’s ills.

Every year hundreds of children in Paulding County become victims of crimes such as physical abuse and sexual abuse. The mission of the Crimes Against Children Unit is to protect the young citizens of Paulding County by conducting thorough investigations of reported criminal activity where a child have been physically abused; sexually abused; neglected; or kidnapped; and bring the offenders to justice. 

The Crimes Against Children Unit also applies experience and training to proactive programs such as Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Community and School Presentations bringing awareness to activities that can lead to child abuse. 

The Crimes Against Children Unit operates proactive ICAC programs to detect and arrest child predators and purveyors of child sexual abuse materials. The Crimes Against Children Unit is an award winning Affiliate of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Internet Crimes Against Children Unit (ICAC).

The Crimes Against Children Unit is also charged with Monitoring and tracking sex offenders residing in Paulding County. The Sex Offender Registry Tracking program in Paulding County verifies the residency and job location of every sex offender in the county on a bi-annual basis.  

The Crimes Against Children Unit all collaborates with many other local agencies which are a part of a Multi- disciplinary Team (MDT). The MDT consists of the Crimes Against Children Unit;  Paulding County Advocacy Center; Paulding County District Attorney Office; Paulding County Department of Family and Children’s Services (DFACS); Paulding Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA); Representatives from Paulding Wellstar, Tanner Health; and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. The MDT meets on a weekly basis to discuss cases and to share new concepts.
 


Who We Are...

The Crimes Against Children Unit is under the Juvenile Division and commenced operations as a separate unit in September 2006. The Crimes Against Children Unit specializes in crimes committed against children such as sexual and physical abuse.

Since inception the Crimes Against Children Unit has expanded to 5 detectives, a Sergeant, a Lieutenant and two support professionals. The Unit has evolved into highly trained teams in the areas of Child Abuse Investigations, Internet Crimes Against Children investigations, Sex Offender Registry Tracking, and Child Abduction Response.

Commander of the Crimes Against Children Unit. Lt. Kilgore is also the Child Abduction Response Team leader (CART). Lt. Kilgore was a key player in the creation Internet Crimes Against Children unit that in 2008 was recognized by the Georgia Burea of investigation for Outstanding Investigative Response In the Area of Internet Crimes Against Children for a new task Force Agency. Lt. Kilgore has developed the Crimes Against Children Unit into a World –Class unit of professional and well trained personnel.
