The Crimes Against Children Unit falls under the Juvenile Division and began operations as a separate unit in September 2006. The Crimes Against Children Unit specializes in crimes committed against children such as sexual and physical abuse.
Since its inception in 2006, the Crimes Against Children Unit has expanded to five Detectives, one Lieutenant, one Sergeant, one Corporal, and two support professionals. This unit has evolved over the years and consists of highly trained Detectives in the areas of Child Abuse Investigations, Internet Crimes Against Children Investigations, Sex Offender Registry Tracking, and Child Abduction Response.
Lieutenant Starry Kilgore
Lieutenant Starry Kilgore is the Commander of the Crimes Against Children Unit and is also the Child Abduction Response Team leader (CART). Lieutenant Kilgore was a key player in the creation Internet Crimes Against Children unit that in 2008 and was recognized by the Georgia Burea of investigation for Outstanding Investigative Response in the Area of Internet Crimes Against Children for a new Task Force Agency. Lieutenant Kilgore has also developed the Crimes Against Children Unit into a world–class unit of professional and well trained personnel.
Sergeant Lenny Carr
Sergeant Carr oversees the day to day operations of the Crimes Against Children Unit. Furthermore, he supervises the Detectives in the course of their child sexual/physical abuse and internet investigations.
Detective Brett Whritenour
Detective Whritenour supervises the State of Georgia Sexual Offender Registry for Paulding County. Any sex offender that resides within Paulding County has to register with Detective Shelton at the Crimes Against Children office.
