Emergency Notification Off
Chairman's Corner
Thursday, January 17, 2018

We did not have a White Christmas, but Mother Nature has certainly bracketed the Holiday Season with white!!  And you know white “precip” and white hair are signs of purity…LOL! Once again, I am pleased with the work of our EMA (Emergency Management Agency) under the director of Chief Pelfrey and Stephen Dooley, always assisted by the Sheriff’s office, Fire Department, 911 Department, and PDOT.  Your coordination with higher authority and interdepartmentally is excellent.

More on winter weather:  My Granddaddy used to say, “Don’t apologize for something you have no control over!”  I certainly have NO control over the weather, but I am regretful that we have had 3 RCR (Richland Creek Reservoir) tours/fieldtrips rescheduled due to rainy or snowy weather!  We will keep trying to get a good day!  The Reservoir is on schedule despite the weather and is also on budget.  The Dam is getting taller!  In nine months we will fill partially with water and begin stocking with fish! You fishermen/fisherwomen get your canoes and kayaks ready!  Also, we will soon see construction on the new jail, long overdue and vitally needed. CPS (Comprehensive Program Services) will introduce monthly updates on the jail progress, beginning at the BOC (Board of Commissioner) meeting on January 23, 2018.

The 2018 Georgia General Assembly began on January 8, 2018.  Members of your Paulding County staff will collaborate with ACCG (Association of County Commissioners of Georgia) to stay abreast of state bills that most directly affect our county.  Issues include the FY2018 Amended Budget and Governor’s proposed FY 2019 budget, modernization and balanced funding of the 9-1-1 System, Broadband connectivity throughout Georgia, Sales tax reform, and others.

I hope you have started the New Year with a “pep in your step”, an “attitude for good health”, and positive ideas for our county!  Do not hesitate to contact your Post Commissioner or myself at to communicate your thoughts and concerns.

Recognizing God’s rich blessings,
