Career:

Major Billy Hurst graduated from Paulding County High School in 1993.  After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army where he served seven years on active duty in the Military Police Corps.  Major Hurst received an Honorable Discharge as a Sergeant.

 

Paulding County Service:

Major Hurst began his career as a Detention Officer at the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office in 2001.   He was promoted to patrol Deputy after graduating from North Central Georgia Law Enforcement Academy in September of 2001.  Hurst was assigned to the Uniform Patrol Division for four years before being selected as a canine handler with the Sheriff’s Office K-9 Division.  Hurst served as a canine handler for 13 years before retiring his second canine, K-9 Major.  From there, Major Hurst was assigned to the Office of Professional Standards Division (OPS). After serving in the OPS Division, Hurst was promoted to Captain and was a shift Commander on night shift Patrol for two years.  In April of 2022, Hurst was appointed by Sheriff Gary Gulledge to the rank of Major and began his duties as the Paulding County Detention Center Jail Administrator.

            - Field Training Officer

            - Radar and LIDAR

            - Jailer Certification

            - As well as the 120 hour Supervision Training course and the 120 hour Management

              Training course.

 

Personal Information:

In his time away from law enforcement, Major Hurst enjoys playing golf and spending time with his family.   He is married to Liz Hurst and they have one child, Bradley.
