On 5/9/2022 while Paulding County was onsite at 678 Poplar Springs Rd. Staff noticed that the bypass pumps were not pumping at the flow rate that they were set to pump. As staff was investigating the situation, an overflow occurred from the manhole outside of the station. An estimated 10 gallons per minute (1,200 gallons) entered Rakestraw Creek. In addition, 70 gallons per minute (8,400 gallons) overflowed out of the manhole and into the field east of the lift station for a total combined discharge of 9,600 gallons. Staff manually removed rags and debris from the pumps and the pumps were placed back in service, stopping the discharge. Lime was applied to the affected areas. Efforts will continue to educate customers about what should not be flushed into the sewer system.
