On April 8, 2022 Paulding County staff found a sewer leak at 5153 Jimmy Lee Smith Pkwy. Collections crews arrived at 4:00 p.m. and cut the bell out of the 8" ductile iron pipe. Once the pipe was cut and inspected, crews found that a large section of the remaining pipe had corroded leaving a 2" gap on the bottom of the pipe. We set up a bypass pump and stopped the leak at 12:00 a.m. It is estimated that 10 g.p.m was leaking from the pipe for 8 hours for a total reported leak of 4800 gallons of sewer into a tributary of Rakestraw Creek. The bypass pump will continue to bypass while the pipe is replaced. A sign was placed at the creek and EPD was notified.
